Letter to the Editor: I am proud of Wareham
I have never been so proud of Wareham. On Saturday, Wareham for Law and Democracy, as part of Indivisible’s No Kings, held its second No Kings Day. I am proud of the over 800 people who participated. I was proud to see and talk with all the kids who participated, and I’m proud of the large number of young people who joined us with fervor.
I am proud of everyone’s commitment to non-violence and a fun day for all. Attendees with most ingenious signs learned how to address the few drivers who gave us a “one-finger” salute by offering them a “two-finger” salute, otherwise known as a peace sign.
I am proud to be a member of Wareham for Law and Democracy and especially proud of their friendship and never-ending energy. This group has many meetings and emails per week as well as hosting Saturday Standouts every week in front of Wareham Town Hall at 11:30-12:30. Do come to join us each week and bring your friends and family, including children. This is a great opportunity to make new friends and teach your children how to support democracy.
“Millions of Americans stood together to reject authoritarianism and remind the world that our democracy belongs to the people, not to one man’s ambition,” Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg, co-founders of Indivisible, said in a statement.
This is what democracy looks like! There is no place for kings in America. Join us and Stand Up. Speak Up. Stay Strong.
