Water services return after large water main break on Cromesett Road
A water main break on Cromesett Road near Route 6 shut off water services for the surrounding neighborhood Saturday morning, and water came back online later in the afternoon.
Wareham Water Department crews were on the scene since the early morning. Water was turned off to the Cromesett area until about 2 p.m. on Saturday, according to water officials.
“It’s pretty straight forward and not that bad. Just getting to the pipe is the hardest challenge,” the department’s Operations Supervisor Shayne Lydon said Saturday morning, adding the cold temperatures and light snow made the repair more difficult.
Crews worked to cut out the old, damaged section of the pipe and put a new pipe in its place. Lydon said water was shut off at all of the houses from Marion Road to the end of Cromesett Road. Water was also offline for homes on West Terry Lane, but homes off of East Terry Lane were unaffected.
Lydon said the break occurred on an old water main line that received repairs some 15 years ago. He said the break, which spewed water out around 6:45 a.m., broke just past the previous repair.
Wareham Water District residents could see discoloration in water today.
