WAREHAM–Katherine R. “Katie” Prada, 78, of Wareham, died Saturday, July 8, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Melvin M. “Mel” Prada.

Born in El Paso, TX, Katie was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Evelyn May (Maynard) Staab. Raised in Wareham, she graduated from Wareham High School in 1963 and was a proud member of the Wareham High Alumni Association.

Katie was co-owner of Prada’s Diner in Wareham for many years. She began working at the diner in 1964 until 2004 when her husband retired. Afterwards, she worked at the deli counter at B.J.’s Wholesale Club and Wal-Mart in Plymouth. Before her work at the diner, Katie worked for H.L. Boutin in Buzzards Bay.

Survivors include her children, Sheri Clayton and her husband Brian of Wareham, Lori Ellis of Wareham and Gregory Prada of Seattle, WA; her grandchildren, Richard, Joseph, Catrina, Sam, Devin, Amilya, Sean and Jeff, Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Eva and Emma. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Arthur J. Staab.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 9 to 10 AM. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
