James Francis Spain, 80

WAREHAM – James Francis Spain, 80, of Wareham, died Sunday, July 9, 2023 at his home unexpectedly. He was the husband of Beverly (Moylan) Spain.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late James F. and Dorothy E. (Collins) Spain and graduated from Everett High School. A previous resident of Plymouth, he moved to Wareham 17 years ago. Mr. Spain worked as a cook for many years at nursing homes the Boston area, the South Shore and South Coast.

Mr. Spain served as an electrician’s mate in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1967 onboard the USS William A. Lee (DL-4), and then joined the U.S. Air Force serving from 1967 to 1969 as an aircraft mechanic.

Survivors include his wife Beverly of Wareham; his children, Sherill McGrath of Wareham, and Kristen Wangunyu and Shawn Spain both of Brockton; 7 grandchildren, Courtney Peluso, Cecilia McGrath, Seraphina McGrath, Maria McGrath, Daniel McGrath, Xavier McGrath and Zoe Wangunyu; and 2 great grandchildren, Carter Occhipinti and Aurora Peluso. He was predeceased by his brothers, the late Richard Collins and Francis Spain.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 10 to 11:30 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
