Herbert R. Alley, 93, of Hanover, formerly of Rochester and Wareham, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2023 at Brookwood Assisted Living in Hudson, FL. He was the husband of Gertrude (Fearing) Alley.

Born in Rochester, he was the son of the late Herbert and Mazie (Graham) Alley. He was assistant manager and visual merchandiser for the First National grocery store in Wareham that later became the A & P.

Mr. Alley was a Korean war veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 220 in Wareham.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Alley of Hudson, FL; his daughter, Susan Russell and her husband Ron of Hudson, FL; and his granddaughter, Kim Egan and her husband Ian of Port Richey, FL. He was predeceased by his siblings, the late Francis “Buddy” Alley and the late Doris Preti.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sat., Sept 23, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 9 to 10:30 AM. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in Center Cemetery, Wareham.
