Elks lodge announces student award winners

The Wareham-New Bedford Elks Club held its annual Student of the Month/Year dinner on Thursday, May 7 celebrating area students.

Sawyer Boutin was selected as Student of the Year from Wareham High School. Julian Christopher was selected as Student of the Year from Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. 

The Elks club awarded students from other nearby towns as well. 

Rachel Tse was selected as Student of the Year from Old Rochester Regional High School and Lilyan Santos was selected as Student of the Year from Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School.

Students of the year received a certificate of achievement and $500 check, according to Barbara Morse, Lodges committee chair at the Wareham-New Bedford Elks Club. State Sen. Kelly Dooner was the dinner’s guest speaker and presented each winning student with a congratulatory citation from the state legislature.

Each month, area high schools, like Upper Cape and Wareham High School, select recipients of student of the month awards. Each student of the month received a $100 check and certificate of achievement, and were invited to attend the Elks lodge dinner.
