Commending local bars

Aug 12, 2019

To the Editor:

I was overwhelmed with pride when I learned how our local establishments dealt with an overabundance of alcohol-seeking crowds.

After this year’s Onset’s Cape Verdean festival came to a successful end and the bars were inundated with crowds looking to consume alcohol in large quantities, a number of Onset Village bars and restaurants willingly agreed to close early to prevent any dangerous situations.

I know that the Quahog Republic made the decision to close early as a preventative measure upon seeing the large number of people looking to overindulge. Marc Anthony’s stopped selling alcohol, Stevie B’s, and Stephens Lounge also closed early. In an era of making a profit, I’m proud to live in a community that put the safety of its occupants first.
