Ashley F. Filkins, Sr., 70, of Wareham passed away peacefully on January 6, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton after a lengthy illness. 

Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Stanford and Emma Jean (Lopes) Filkins.

Ashley was a lifelong resident of Wareham and a proud, longtime member of Massachusetts Laborers Union Local  #721 .  He worked at the Plymouth Power Plant and other area business.  He especially enjoyed landscaping.  Ashley would fondly recall when he, Dennis and his brothers Leroy and Stanley all worked together at the Tremont Nail Factory, in Wareham.

Survivors include  his son, Ashley F. Filkins, Jr., “ AJ” of Boston, MA  and daughter Amber Lee Filkins, of Washington, DC, the children’s mother,  Wendy Filkins, his brother Dennis Filkins and sisters Terry Jo Filkins and Kim Fontes, all of Wareham,  Sheila Tougas, of Attleboro, MA, Gloria Burgess, of Randolph, Vermont and Barbara Sullivan his long time caregiver.  He was the brother of the late Patricia Cardoza, LeRoy Filkins, Walter Filkins, Stanley Filkins and Vernon Filkins.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.

His funeral service and burial are being held privately.

A gathering for friends and family will be held at a later date.
