Adopt a Vet goes virtual

Jan 11, 2021

Veterans can record their stories for future generations through the Adopt a Vet Program.

The program is completely free, and interviews are being recorded remotely for safety reasons during the pandemic.

For nearly ten years, William R. (Bob) C. White has run the Adopt a Vet program with Wareham Community Television and the Wareham Free Library.

The program is modeled on a military history program run by the Library of Congress, and gives veterans an opportunity to discuss their military service.

Usually, the roughly hour-long interviews are conducted in person.

During the pandemic, White is using Zoom video call technology to conduct and record interviews which are minimally edited and saved on DVDs. DVD copies are given to the veteran, WCTV, and the library.

“This is a great opportunity to share a bit of personal history with future generations of one’s family and the community,” White said.
