The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra (NBSO) invites audiences to experience The Human Element on Saturday, April 18, 7:30 PM at the Zeiterion in New Bedford. Led by Music Director Yaniv Dinur and featuring internationally acclaimed pianist Michel Camilo, this dynamic program explores transformation through sound, spirit, and cultural expression.
The evening opens with Missy Mazzoli’s River Rouge Transfiguration, a vivid and immersive work inspired by Detroit’s industrial landscape. Pulsing with energy and color, the piece captures a striking evolution from grit and machinery to radiant beauty.
Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 follows, offering a deeply expressive journey filled with warmth, intensity, and lyrical grace. From its powerful opening to its introspective close, the symphony reveals Brahms at his most personal, balancing strength with profound sensitivity.
The program concludes with Michel Camilo’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1, performed by the composer himself. A celebrated figure in both jazz and classical music, Camilo brings electrifying energy to this genre-crossing work. Infused with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, virtuosic brilliance, and moments of deep lyricism, the concerto delivers a thrilling and emotionally resonant finale.
The Human Element is a celebration of music’s power to transform, connect, and inspire across boundaries. Feel the rush. Be transformed. Let the music take over.
