Easter Sunday sunrise service moved to Bourne

Apr 16, 2025

The Wareham Area Clergy Association which has long held a sunrise service on Easter Sunday but will be doing so in a different location this year.

The tradition has been going on for 25 years in Onset according to Reverend Ginny Doran and this year it will take place at the Buzzards Bay Park in Bourne at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 20.

The Select Board told Doran the service could still be held in Wareham but it would have to be after 7 a.m., per the town’s noise ordinance law.

The service has traditionally included an acoustic guitar and other instruments as part of the service.

It is not immediately apparent as to why noise related issues are a concern this year because according to Doran, they have not been issues in the past.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan could not be immediately reached for comment.
