Sherry Quirk announces resignation from Select Board
Select Board member Sherry Quirk announced her resignation at the board’s March 4 meeting.
Quirk did not provide a reason for her resignation and said it was “personal” and made for “a number of reasons.”
“I really respect and appreciate everybody on this board and would just say this is a fantastic town, I love it and I'll be here,” Quirk said.
Her resignation is effective May 5, the day before Wareham’s annual election.
“I’m giving notice early so that people who want to do good hard work for the town, which really needs good hard work, are able to make their decisions about running and mount their campaigns,” she said.
Quirk retired in Wareham in 2021 and got involved in government, serving on the Planning Board, Alternative Energy Committee and Bylaw Review Committee before her election to the Select Board in 2024. Before settling in Wareham, she worked for decades as a lawyer in the energy field.
Quirk said she’s proud of her recent work in spearheading the return of the Bicycling Committee.
Additionally she said she’s been very interested in the energy industry developing in Wareham and has “exerted efforts to try to help get the town to a good space.”
Quirk’s resignation adds a third Select Board seat up for election in May, alongside two regularly expiring terms.
“I don’t want to make any long speeches now because I’m actually not going anywhere for a while. I'll be doing the work of a selectperson and the projects that I’ve set out to do until May 5 and afterwards, if you all will have me,” Quirk said.
