After an outbreak of mold caused by a failed HVAC system closed the Wareham Free Library for over a month, the 59 Marion Road branch re-opened Monday Sept. 16.

According to Wareham Free Library Director Patrick Marshall, the town's municipal maintenance department “did a tremendous job getting people in to clean the building, clean the air ducts and to just get the HVAC working again.”

Marshall explained in early August, the HVAC system stopped dehumidifying the air in the building leading to more moisture and humidity which created mold in the back offices.

The main library is up and running but the HVAC system has yet to be replaced, he said.

"It's going to take time to do the engineering, and they have been working on it, but the HVAC decided to go quicker,” said Marshall.

At Town Meeting, voters supported the allocation of $2.3 million to repair and replace the library’s HVAC system.

The Spinney Memorial branch, which was opened while the main branch was closed, will close on Tuesday Sept. 17, but the book drop will remain open until Monday Sept. 23. Items on hold will be transferred to the main branch.
