Water rescue: First responders work to rescue person believed to have fallen through ice

First responders are working to search the area of 786 County Road in West Wareham, where it is believed a person fell through the ice on Sunday evening.

According to the Wareham Department of Natural Resources, it is believed the person fell into a bog reservoir.

Dive teams are on the scene, and a sonar search is being conducted.

Residents are asked to avoid the area while the search is underway.

Scanner traffic indicates it may now be a “recovery operation.”

As of about 11 p.m., crews were leaving the scene for the night, according to the Department of Natural Resources. The dive team will return in daylight hours tomorrow, Feb. 22, to continue the search.
