Wareham Vikings fall to Bourne in annual Thanksgiving game

Nov 28, 2024

The Bourne Canalmen took charge in the traditional Thanksgiving football game against the Wareham Vikings on Nov. 28, defeating the visiting Vikings 47-6.

The soaked field and grey skies matched the disappointed mood of the Vikings following the loss.

The Canalmen scored shortly after the 10 a.m. kickoff and kept the pressure on through the first half, opting to primarily run the ball.

Wareham answered with less than two minutes remaining in the first half when sophomore Malikhi Tavares caught an endzone pass. Bourne quickly responded, scoring again before the clock expired. The half ended 28-6 in Bourne’s favor.

Neither team attempted to kick extra points, instead choosing to go for two after each score, Wareham failed to convert after Tavares' touchdown.

The Vikings will not see the playoffs this year, ending the season 3-8 after Thursday’s loss.
