A juvenile who reportedly attempted to steal a car from the Cumberland Farms parking lot on Main Street and assaulted the vehicle’s owner is facing several charges, according to Wareham Police.

Officers say the incident took place around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, while the car’s owner was inside the store.

The owner reportedly approached the juvenile and was dragged several feet by the car as it drove down Main Street.

Police followed the car, making several attempts to pull the juvenile over before the vehicle finally stopped in the area of Hathaway Street near the train tracks.

The juvenile then reportedly jumped from the car, leading Officers James White and Michael Phinney on a brief foot chase before his arrest.

The juvenile, who’s identity has been withheld due to his age, is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

The owner of the car was treated and released from Tobey Hospital.
