Police found a Wareham man wanted on an outstanding warrant hiding behind a dresser on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Wareham Police reportedly received information that Xavier Hernandez, 19, was at a Main Street apartment and paid the address a visit around 10 a.m. with the intent of placing him in custody.

Sergeant Paul Somers, Officers Christopher Smith and Matthew Donovan all responded to the address, knocking at the door for several minutes to no answer.

Police said the officers began to force their way into the apartment when a woman finally opened the door. Her identity was not released. 

Officer Smith found Hernandez hiding behind a dresser in a back bedroom during their search and placed him under arrest. Hernandez was processed at the Wareham Police Station and transported to Wareham District Court.
