Vikings face tough loss against Old Rochester

Feb 13, 2023

MATTAPOISETT — The Wareham Vikings boys varsity basketball team suffered a tough loss against the Old Rochester Regional High School Bulldogs in a South Coast Conference League game on Monday, Feb. 13.

The 71-59 loss was a blow to the team, which was previously undefeated this season. With wins against all major opponents, including a close win against Old Rochester in December, this is a major change of pace for the Vikings, who remain first in the League.

The Vikings didn’t let the Bulldogs win without a fight. At the end of the first quarter, both teams were tied 16-16.

By the end of the first half, the Vikings’ lead dwindled and they could not recover, despite the team’s best efforts.

An effective series of free throws kept Wareham in fighting shape, but they ultimately couldn’t stick it out on the Bulldogs’ home turf.

Chants and jeers from Bulldogs fans erupted with each play, but Vikings fans shot back from the stands, keeping the energy high and helping their team hold as much momentum as possible.

With their first league loss of the season and second loss overall, the Vikings will move on to face the Bourne Canalmen in a home game on Friday, Feb. 17.
