Updated: Wareham 911 restored after statewide outage
911 service has been restored across the state, according to Massachusetts State Police.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 18, emergency services sent out a notification that Wareham’s 911 emergency call service is down. According to the Massachusetts State Police, as of 4 p.m., the outage has been resolved, and 911 service has been restored.
For police and medical calls, residents were requested to call Wareham Police at 508-295-1212, according to Onset Fire Rescue. In the event of a fire emergency, residents of the Onset Fire District were requested to call 508‐295‐2122 and Wareham Fire District residents were requested to call 508-295-2323.
According to the Massachusetts state police, residents looking to contact them were requested to call the South Coast regional dispatch at 508-397-3192.
The lapse was part of an outage in the state’s 911 system, which left towns across Massachusetts without the ability to use the line to call emergency services the afternoon of Tuesday, June 18.
According to the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, the state 911 department was “aware of a disruption to the 911 system and is investigating the cause.”
Following restoration of services, it wrote, “The public may now resume calling 911 for emergencies. Thank you for your patience.”
A statewide public safety alert said that the outage may lead to delays in public safety response.
In a Facebook post, Onset Fire Rescue wrote that they “will monitor the situation and report any further updates when available.”
The Wareham Fire Department wrote that statewide 911 services are “working on a resolution.”
