Saturday, July 5

Trail day fun

Pull weeds, protect nature and enjoy the outdoors Saturday, July 5 from 9 to 11 a.m.The Wareham Land Trust invites guests to the Red Brook Trail Network to pull invasive Japanese Knotweed. Tools will be provided but work gloves, bug spray and water and other wood appropriate attire must be brought by guests. 

Those interested will meet at the Onset Water Department Office at 15 Sand Pond Rd in East Wareham. Visit warehamlandtrust.org to register. 

Monday, July 7

Concert on the lawn

Head over to the Wareham Fee Library, located at 59 Marion Road Monday, July 7 for a rockin’ ukulele concert.

“The Unlikely Strummers” will perform at 7 p.m. A donation to Damien’s Food Pantry is a ticket to the show. The library asks attendees to bring a lawn chair, bug spray and a snack.

The concert will be held indoors if the weather is bad.

Tuesday, July 8

Don’t let life fly by

Be a social butterfly and join Massachusetts Butterfly Club member Andrew Griffith on a 90-minute walk. Identify native butterflies, learn about their host plants, and how they are adapting to climate change.

The program will take place Tuesday, July 8 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. Registration is required. Please register warehamlandtrust.org.

Wednesday, July 9

Hear about the planet

Prepare to learn more on Wednesday, July 9th with Matt Davis at the Wareham Free Library located at 59 Marion Road at 6:30 p.m. His talk, "Life On An Unpredictable Planet" dives into how a significant percentage of the world’s population lives with the threats posed by various natural hazards. Although deaths resulting from natural disaster events have decreased over time, the economic impacts, social disruption, and effects on our infrastructure have steadily increased.

Join speaker Matt Davis to learn more. During the talk, Davis and the audience will explore the reasons people choose to live in risky places, some of the psychological factors that affect their perceptions of risk and likelihood of preparing for potential disasters, and factors that help in disaster recovery. 

Thursday, July 10

When dogs fly

Watch dogs fly with Mike Piazza, a world record holder and multiple time world finalist in K9 frisbee, at the Wareham Free Library located at 59 Marion Road on Thursday, July 10.
This program is free and lasts from 3 to 4 p.m.

The show consists of Mike Piazza and his team of four high-flying frisbee dogs filled with acrobatics, tricks, and paw-some athleticism. This is a family-friendly performance that’s perfect for kids, parents, and dog lovers of all ages.

Moon walkin’

Reminisce on the Full Moon Walk with Science Educator Mary Beers and the Wareham Land Trust on Thursday, July 10 for an evening walk at Douglas S. Westgate Conservation Area from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

As twilight fades, participants will explore the trail by moonlight, tuning into the sights, sounds, and stories of the night.

Parking is available at 29 Papermill Road in West Wareham. The trail is approximately 1.3 miles and mostly flat, though some sections have uneven ground. Participants should feel free to bring a walking stick for extra stability.

This event is free, but space is limited, so registration is required. This walk is family-friendly and is recommended for children age 5 and up. Be sure to dress in layers appropriate for the weather and bring water and bug spray. In case of inclement weather, the rain date is Friday, July 11 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
