Nov 1, 2018

Onset, Wareham and Bourne firefighters responded to a 2-alarm structure fire near the Bay Pointe Club on Wednesday afternoon that was reportedly caused by a ceiling fan and displaced at least one family, officials said.

The fire happened in a two-story, four-unit condo building at 4 Susan Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. Fire officials said crews discovered the fire was in the overhead ceiling beneath a second floor apartment.

Town Building, Gas and Electrical inspectors were all called to the scene along with the Board of Health for assistance with finding the family a temporary shelter. An Eversource Emergency Trouble Truck also responded and secured power to the building during the fire.

According to officials, all occupants of the condo were able to escape and no civilian injuries were reported. At least one family was displaced as a result of the blaze. One Onset firefighter sustained a shoulder injury while on scene and was taken to Tobey Hospital for treatment. He was released the same day.

Officials stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
