Slavin celebration, Harborview inauguration postponed
While originally planned to be the first event taking place at the long-awaited Harborview restaurant and marina, a celebratory party to honor Alan Slavin’s retirement has been postponed.
The party is to celebrate the retirement of Alan Slavin from the Wareham Select Board. He served for 12 years on the Select Board and chose not to run for re-election in the past election cycle. He has also served on other boards, including the now defunct Wareham Marine Resources Committee and the Capital Planning Committee, and serves now as a member of the Finance Committee.
The party was originally scheduled for June 30 at the Rosebrook Event Center, then was moved to Monday, Sept. 9 at the Harborview. The new date following the postponement will be Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The Harborview project — a pavilion, restaurant, ice-cream stand and marina along the downtown waterfront — first broke ground in March 2022.
While Slavin’s celebration was meant to be the restaurant’s first outing, according to Harborview founder Danny Warren, the town boards which oversee the building’s construction needed more time to look over its completion.
Slavin insisted the celebration be pushed off to give the boards adequate time to consider, said Warren.
However, the other events associated with the Harborview are currently set to continue as planned. Warren said the grand opening of the building will be the second week of October.
