Seniors dance the night away

Nov 14, 2023

Seniors were partying like it was 1955 this past Saturday night.

Almost as if they had just hopped off the set of “Grease,” there were many Pink Ladies and T-Birds ready to rock and roll the night away.

Salerno’s held the annual Sock Hop for the benefit of the Council on Aging Nov. 11.

Director of the Council on Aging Sharon Rice said it is their biggest fundraising event of the year.

Sock hops were originally designed by the American Junior Red Cross to raise funds for WWII until they become a fad in the 50s.

These dances got their name as many of the participating teenagers were required to remove their shoes to protect the varnished gym floors.

Besides dancing, seniors competed in a game of limbo and for multiple raffle prizes from the Advocates for Wareham Seniors for the benefit of the council.
