The Select Board voted to officially close the annual fall Town Meeting warrant during its Sept. 21 meeting.

Fall Town Meeting will take place on Monday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The location of the meeting still has not been announced.

The board also voted to put articles on the Town Meeting warrant but did not discuss them or make recommendations, at Select Board Chair Judith Whiteside’s instruction.

In total, 20 articles were added to the warrant, including a number of routine financial articles, such as the town’s capital plan, budget transfers and PEG Access Receipts, which fund WCTV.

Also added to the warrant were a few articles with requests for Community Preservation Act funds, which were put forth by the Community Preservation Committee. These articles included a request for $250,000 to install new playground equipment in Swifts Beach and $150,000 to help cover the cost of the Buzzard Bay Coalition’s efforts to restore the stone pier on Wickets Island. 

In addition, five citizens’ petition articles were put on the Town Meeting warrant. Citizens’ petition articles cannot be blocked by members of the Select Board.

Although Select Board member Peter Teitelbaum read the names of the petition articles and identified the lead petitioners, the citizens’ petition articles were not explained in any detail.

The articles related to a variety of topics, including the Wareham Redevelopment Authority, Zoom meetings and potential plans to reuse the John W. Decas Elementary School as a sort of community center.

Some of the citizens’ petitions articles were filed on Sept. 21.

“We got a couple more today,” Teitelbaum said.
