Pete’s Master Muffler involved in 3-alarm fire

Jan 9, 2020

Pete’s Master Muffler repair shop at 3125 Cranberry Highway was the site of a three-alarm fire on Thursday afternoon, resulting in no injuries but significant damage to the building and several vehicles.

At 3:52 p.m., the Onset Fire Department received reports of the fire, which was creating a heavy volume of smoke. Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey R. Osswald ordered a working fire assignment, followed quickly by the transmission of 2nd and 3rd alarms within minutes of his arrival on scene.

The crews were met with a heavy fire in the building, which they knocked down in five minutes using multiple hoses.

The crews contained the fire to the building and spent several hours completely extinguishing the flames and retrieving property that was inside vehicles being worked on at the time of the fire.

No one was injured, but the building sustained significant damage, and vehicles being worked on inside were destroyed.

Fifty-five people from the Onset, Wareham, Bourne, and Plymouth Fire Departments assisted at the scene, along with Wareham’s Emergency Medical Service, Police Department, and Inspectional Services. The Carver and Marion Fire Departments covered Onset during the fire.

Although the cause of the fire is under investigation, it is not thought to be suspicious.
