Patricia Maureen Monteiro, also known as “Patty” & “Mama Pat”, passed away peacefully at her home on July 14, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Emma (Nunes) and Ernest Mathews.

Patricia, the Matriarch, was an amazing and loving Mother to her 8 children and her grandchildren.  She showed this love to all her nieces and nephews. Patricia welcomed all her children’s friends into her home and loved to cook for an army.  

She was a smart, feisty and strong lady (all 5’ of her). She enjoyed bingo, Foxwoods, decorating and the company of her many friends. She was an excellent cook; her fried chicken & macaroni salad will surely be missed. Please remember her beautiful smile and the genuine affection she had for you. We take comfort knowing she’s in a better place, up in heaven playing cards with loved ones previously passed.

Among holding other pageant titles, Patricia was a former Miss Cape Verdean of New Bedford.

Survivors include her children, Edwin P. Monteiro, Jr. of Wareham, Michael Monteiro and his wife Paula of Buzzards Bay, Scott Monteiro, Sr. of Wareham, Wendy Monteiro of Onset, Anthony Monteiro and his wife Clare of Onset, Marié Young and her husband Paul of Palm Harbor, FL, Sinceré Goodman and her husband Jeffrey of Wareham, and Anastatia Andrade and her husband Shawn of Onset; her brother, Ronald Mathews of Middleboro; her sister, Pearl Barrows of Wareham; her aunt and Godmother, Rose Nunes of Wareham; her grandchildren, Heather, Monica, Nicholas, Michael Jr., Stefan, Dakota, Dallas, Derek, Jeffrey, Garrett, Margeaux, Marcus and Meghan; great grandchildren, Sophia and Madison.  She was predeceased by her grandson, the late Scott A. Monteiro, Jr. and her brothers, the late Louis Mathews, Lawrence Mathews, and Ernest Mathews, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rt. 28), Wareham from 3 – 6 PM.  Her funeral will be Monday, July 19, 2021 from the funeral home at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 AM.  Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
