Opinion: Learn more, fight short-sighted solar development

Jul 13, 2021

To the Editor:

Cutting down Wareham’s forests for solar panels isn’t smart. From Town Meeting to online community forums, many seem to agree. We don’t always know what to do to change the tide, especially when our state and local governments take a short view of the future.

On Saturday, July 31, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Onset VFW in Gibbs Park, we can take part in an informed discussion with others to discuss and learn about how to actively work to change laws so that our lands can be protected. Save the Pine Barrens is hosting an afternoon of Indigenous speakers and other land protectors. Please attend!

Technology is constantly being updated and the solar panels that are being erected now will be like the old TVs we see on the street and in the woods. There aren’t good plans for recycling these things! Find out the specifics that you might not have had the time or resources to research, so that you can really be informed and figure out which actions you and we can take to keep our world healthy.
