Letter to the Editor: AI Social Security overhaul
To the Editor:
FYI… the Social Security Administration (SSA) is undergoing a major overhaul to eliminate fraud. To speed up the process of cleaning up and transferring everyone’s data, the Administration’s plan is to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to accomplish this task. AI is very good, but it is not perfect! To ensure your personal data (earnings history and more) is not deleted or mismanaged, it is wise to download and make copies of your personal SSA information NOW (especially your earnings record) before the transition with AI occurs.
Simply log into your Social Security (SS) account (https://www.ssa.gov/). You can get your earnings statement in one of two ways. On the “Welcome” page, click on “Your Social Security Statement.” The second page of your statement will show your complete career earnings record. Download and print a copy. Or you can scroll to the bottom of the “Welcome” page to “Earnings,” click on “Review your full earnings record now.” This shows your career earnings. Download and print a copy for your records.
Keep these records in a safe place so you have proof of your career earnings in case anything goes wrong with the untested AI transfer of data.
If you want to share your opinion about how this unprecedented process is being handled, please call Senators Markey (202)-224-2742 and Warren (202)-224-4543 and Representative Keating (202)-225-5658. You can also make an appointment to visit them during the current congressional recess that ends April 27.
Sincerely,
Kathy Pappalardo
