Middle school masterpieces on display

Feb 9, 2025

An art gallery full of original pieces by local artists is now on display outside the classroom for the first time.

The gallery features the work of Wareham Middle School students and is currently up in the Blue Foot Cafe on Main Street until the end of the month.

There was a reception for students, parents and anyone visiting the restaurant to take a look at what the students had made Saturday, Feb. 8.

Andrea Ericson, an art teacher for the middle school said this is the second year in a row that they have been able to showcase student work in the community.

"It's a great motivator for the students to create beautiful work," said Ericson.

Hanging in the gallery was a number of different projects the kids had made throughout the year.

There were a number of self-portraits, woven projects and paintings done where kids were able to experiment with different color schemes and designs.

Seventh grader Logan Littlefield has two pieces hanging in the gallery, a self portrait and an owl he designed to look like an astronaut.

Littlefield said the creative freedom in art class is his favorite aspect of it.

"I try to do my projects differently than everybody else and I try to do one piece different ways," Littlefield said.

Fifth grader Rylee Mullen shared similar feelings to Littlefield's and said the creative freedom art class brings her is something she enjoys.

"I like that I can do whatever I want," said Rylee Mullen.

She was at the gallery with her mom Vicki Mullen who said it was "awesome" seeing her daughter's work.
