WAREHAM – Mary Jean (Moniz) Ribeiro, 89, of West Wareham, passed away on September 24, 2024. She was the wife of the late Manuel M. Ribeiro.

She was born on the Island of Madeira, daughter of the late Joseph and Jesuina (Monteiro) Moniz.

She is survived by 2 sons, James M. Ribeiro of Raynham and David M. Ribeiro; a daughter, Lizabeth A. Peterson of Wareham; 2 granddaughters, Jessica Peterson and Diana Ahern; a great granddaughter, Olivia Prunier, who called her “GG” that she loved dearly; a brother, Manuel Moniz of Norton; many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Moniz of Taunton, late Joseph Moniz, Jr. of Norton and the late Luiz Moniz of Taunton.

Mary graduated from Norton High School and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse.

She and her husband Manuel and his two brothers owned and ran two nursing homes for three decades. Country Haven in Norton and Sharon Manor in Sharon. After retiring, they moved to Cape Cod purchasing a home in Onset on the water where they enjoyed many years of boating, fishing and gardening. During this time, Mary studied at the University of RI where she became a Master Gardener.

She also volunteered at several different organizations including the Cancer Society, Good Samaritans, Meals of Wheels and local food pantries. She was a member of the Wareham Garden Club for many years. music, gardening, boating, fishing, birdwatching, loving nature and cooking were just some of her favorite things. She was an expert cook and gardener. Mary is very much loved and will never be forgotten.

Visiting hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
