The Wareham High School Vikings basketball team, fresh off of its state championship win, received certificates and commendations from the Select Board on Tuesday, April 18. 

The board recognized four players and coaches for their stellar performance, which gave them victory over the Springfield International Charter School Bulldogs in March.

Senior Elijah Carrion, freshman Aaron Cote, junior Ajay Lopes and junior Diego Mello were invited along with their parents to appear in front of the Select Board. Head Coach Steve Faniel and Assistant Coaches Darien Fernandez, Jamie Silvia and Aaron Baptiste were also recognized.

The boys basketball team sailed to victory over the Bulldogs 66-40. It was the Vikings' first state championship since 2010.
