Girls tennis takes first round playoffs loss

Jun 3, 2024

The Wareham High School Girls Tennis team closed out its 2024 postseason campaign with a first-round, 2-3 loss to North Reading High School.

While the team was “disappointed in the loss,” said Head Coach Geoff Swett, it had a successful season overall. It went 15 and 3 while playing against good teams, Swett said, “which is admirable.”

The team was one of two co-champions of the Mayflower Conference — though Swett says it beat the other team twice on the courts, and so “I feel we were the better team, and that’s a credit to the girls.” It also beat two of the four teams it used to play as part of the South Coast Conference.

Swett said the individual players on the team made great progress throughout the season. He particularly highlighted senior first singles player Brooklyn Bindas, who recovered from an injury last year to have an undefeated season.

“Brooklyn beat everyone she came across, including some very fine players,” said Swett.

While Bindas and three of her teammates are graduating from high school at the end of this season, Swett hopes they will “have a sport for life” in tennis.
