Farm fresh food at the YMCA
The Gleason Family YMCA brought in Bootstrap Farm Club which runs a mobile farm stand to bring high quality produce, meats and other products to the community.
Bootstrap Farm Club is an organization that works with local farmers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to connect more people to farm fresh food. As a way to connect more people to farm fresh food, the organization decided to bring the food to the people and established a mobile farm stand.
Bootstrap employee Linda Navarro, helps run the mobile farm stand and sees how it can serve as outreach for the organizations mission of connecting people with high quality food.
"We're trying to give people the opportunity to have access to food that is healthy and sustainable raised," said Navarro.
Navarro added all the food is "non-gmo, no pesticides and some of it is certified organic. It's all clean and sustainably raised."
YMCA Senior Program Director Lu Vrito, explained the YMCA wants to supply the community with healthy food as part of the organizations mission to promote healthy living.
"We always want to provide great choices for people and show them that you can eat healthy without breaking the bank," said Vrito.
The mobile farm stand will be at the YMCA Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
