A double fatal shooting that “appears to be a murder-suicide” was reported in Onset earlier this evening, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

Wareham Police contacted Massachusetts State Police around 5 p.m. on Friday, the district attorney’s office said in a statement, about a reported double fatal shooting. The incident preliminarily seems to be a murder-suicide, according to the district attorney’s office.

The incident involves a couple in their 70s, the district attorney’s office confirmed on Saturday.

Police were seen gathered around Captain Collis Drive in Onset Friday evening, near the Point Independence Yacht Club. Officials blocked off the road from passersby.

State police officers went door to door, asking neighbors what they’d seen or heard throughout the afternoon and their knowledge of the people who lived in the house in question.

One nearby resident said that police responded to the neighborhood at around 6:30 p.m. or so.

Wareham police declined to comment on the ongoing investigation, and Massachusetts State Police referred Wareham Week to the district attorney’s office.

On Saturday, the district attorney’s office confirmed the case involved an elderly couple.

This is an active, ongoing investigation.
