Community Youth Empowerment gives out supplies to help kids kick off new year

Sep 20, 2020

Community Youth Empowerment teamed up with Staples on Saturday to make sure kids had the supplies they needed to start classes remotely.

The group gave out notebooks. pens, highlighters, and even headphones to help remote classes run smoothly. The headphones will likely be especially helpful for siblings.

Staples donated packages containing folders, a ruler, pencils and a glue stick, along with a mini notebook.

“A lot of the kids are timid, but everyone’s been very appreciative,” said Brianna Gamble.

Community Youth Empowerment has hosted weekly discussion groups in the past to help kids work toward their goals, which the group hopes to resume if they can figure out a way to do it safely.

They are also planning a fun and safe Trunk or Treat event for Halloween night, to include a costume contest, pumpkin carving, and a showing of Hocus Pocus. For more details about the event, click here.
