WEST WAREHAM – Charles Roderick of West Wareham passed away at the age of 80, on May 18, 2024. He is survived by his devoted wife, Priscilla (Lopes) Roderick, loving father to Charles “Jodie” Nunes of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Cenica Roderick Kinley of Keller, TX and Rhonda Forte of Marietta, GA and step-father to George Mendes, II of Kingston, Debra Mendes-Arey of Marshfield, Linda Andrews-Leighton of Wareham, Gerald Andrews of Wareham, Kyle Taylor. Charlie is predeceased by his mother, Adeline Fernandes formerly of Wareham, his father George Roderick formerly of Falmouth and siblings James Gonsalves Jr., Joseph Gonsalves, and David Roderick. Dear brother to Stella Sylvester of Wareham, Linda Gerrard of Las Vegas, NV, Marsha Antone of Rockland, Geordine Roderick of East Falmouth and Gilbert Roderick of Marion. Beloved grandfather to Mercedes Nunes, Corey Nunes, Anaya Roderick, Kaleb Kinley, Kyle Forte, Jared Forte, Mya Arey, Jadon Arey, Sabella Mendes, Jordan Andrews, Curtis Leighton, Giana Taylor and many great-grandchildren.

Charlie was born in Falmouth and he graduated from Wareham High School in 1962. Charlie honorably served in the United States Army for 2 years and earned the title of Ammunition Chief Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Marksmanship Badge. Charlie also went on to serve in the National Guard for 20 years. After serving his country, he went to work for North Shore University Hospital Vocational Rehabilitation Center in New York and then worked for Hi-Way Concrete in Wareham where he retired.

Charlie was known for his loving spirit and spent many days volunteering at Damien’s Food Pantry, Wareham Athletic Association Cape Verdean Festival Stand, Turning Points Christmas Project, and he supported the Saint Patrick's food pantry by picking up food for the pantry from the Boston Food Bank. In Charlie's spare time, he enjoyed running. He was so proud that he completed the New York, Boston, Cape Cod, Yonkers, and New Jersey Waterfront Marathons, along with several 10K runs and half marathons. Charlie enjoyed helping others. If you called on him for help, he would come running. Charlie had an infectious laugh and truly enjoyed spending time with his family and occasionally going to the casino.

Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Chapman Funerals and Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Patrick's Church, 94 High Street, Wareham at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Wareham.
