Bartholomew “Bart” M. Fogarty, 83, of West Wareham, passed away peacefully on July 15 at Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley J. (Whiteside) Fogarty and the son of the late William and Esther (McIlroy) Fogarty.  

He was born and raised in Huntington, NY and moved to West Wareham 17 years ago upon retirement. Bart was one of seven children, right in the middle of three sisters and three brothers. While his siblings ventured away, Huntington remained his home.

Bart worked in the General Services Department for the Town of Huntington as a Painter for over 30 years.  

After retirement, he and Shirley relocated to West Wareham where he enjoyed dining out at Vel’s Restaurant, playing Keno and catching the Patriots and Red Sox games on TV. If you knew Bart, you loved Bart.

Bart leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Shirley. Together they raised two daughters, Christine Geiger (Douglas) of Silver Spring, MD, and Linda McDermott (Ronald) of Centereach, NY, as well as two grandchildren, Jess Geiger of Haverhill, MA, and Geoffrey Geiger of Silver Spring, MD. He also leaves a sister, Margaret Janicek of Arizona and brother, Herbert Fogarty of Florida. He was lovingly known as Uncle Bart to many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews across the country. 

Bart joins his parents and four of his siblings who have gone before: James Fogarty; William “Buddy” Fogarty; Esther Slabic; and Mary Kirk. 

Visiting hours are from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 21 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Interment to follow at a later date in Huntington, NY.
