WAREHAM – Antone L. “Tony” Fernandes, III, 70, of Wareham, passed away peacefully Monday, January 8, 2024 surrounded by Family. Born in Wareham March 24, 1953, to the late Leonora (Canute) Fernandes and Antone L. Fernandes, Jr.

As a graduate of Wareham High School and Southeastern Technical Institute, Tony’s degree in Computer Programming supported his career as an AIS/AMS User Analyst for the Digital Equipment Corporation. Preceding his career he gained experience in the Industry with Rowley Engineering, Bell Telephone, and COM Service Bureau. He served in the U.S. Army during the post-Vietnam era. In later years he became a prominent member of the Gleason Family YMCA and was featured in their “My Y is every Y” online campaign and was a well known patron of the Wareham Free Library. He was a loyal New England sports fan, while also a coach for Wareham JBA basketball and a supporter of Wareham Tigers and Vikings football. He was an avid reader, enjoyed music, model ship building, history, Western films, fantasy, science fiction and Cape Verdean culture.

Tony’s beautiful smile preceded his entrance and his kind, warm, fun-loving spirit would steal a piece of your heart as he never failed to make a friend wherever he went. He was meticulously kind and thoughtful and will be greatly missed. We will live the rest of our time by taking a page from his book, “Keep on going, do your stuff, – one thing at a time. T-Bones”

Tony is survived by the love of his life and wife of 51 years Marybeth Fernandes; his Babygirl, Shayne Fernandes; his Bubby, Antone L. “TeJay” Fernandes, IV; his beloved Granddaughter; his brothers, Gary Fernandes and Steven Fernandes and sister, Tana Fernandes Quintal, his Brothers and Sisters In-Law, several Nieces, Nephews, many Cousins, Great Aunts/Uncles, and too many friends to count.

Services will be held for family and friends at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham; Visitation; Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 4 – 7pm. Funeral; Thursday, January 18th from the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham at 10 a.m., with an intimate repast at the parish hall to follow. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be at a later date.
