A call for a mental health evaluation ended in an arrest on Jan. 15, after the subject of the call was combative towards officers and attempted to take an officer’s gun.

Two officers responded to the call in Onset at about 10 p.m., and called a third when they learned that the man was being combative and punching walls.

Police say the officers found the man to be belligerent and uncooperative, aggressively resisting handcuffs.

Finally subdued, the man was brought to Tobey Hospital, where three more officers responded to help.

At the hospital, the man began to wrestle with the officers as they attempted to bring him into the emergency room.

The man grabbed one officer’s gun and attempted to pull the gun out of its holster.

At that point, the police decided to instead bring the man to the police station for safety reasons. The man refused to get back into the cruiser, kicking one officer. An officer tased the man and got him into the car.

Police say the man continued to be combative at the police station.

The man was charged with assault and battery with intent to disarm an officer, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer.
