South Coast Chamber Music Series Presents Dreamcatchers

Apr 27, 2023

The South Coast Chamber Music Series (SCCMS) presents the season finale “Dreamcatchers” during the last weekend in April.

The prolific Elfrida Andrée, student of Niels Gade, activist in the Swedish women’s movement, is finally receiving recognition a century after her passing. Her richly turbulent Piano Trio No. 2 in G Minor reflects a momentous inner life. The equally prolific William Grant Still, widely considered the Dean of African-American Composers, conceived his Lyric Quartette (Musical Portraits of Three Friends) as a personal journey full of nostalgia and tenderness. Finally, the incredibly prolific Leo Ornstein continues to shock listeners with his Piano Quintet, a work of unforgettable power. Kudos to three heroic creators!

On Saturday, April 29, the Chamber Music performance will take place in Marion at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church (124 Front Street). On Sunday, April 30, the venue is in South Dartmouth at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church (351 Elm Street). Both concerts begin at 4:00 pm. THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF SEATS AVAILABLE! Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance at https://nbsymphony.org/chamber-series-2022-2023/.

This SCCMS weekend features NBSO musicians Ethan Wood, violin; EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks, violin; Anna Griffis, viola; Peter Zay, cello; as well as SCCMS Artistic Director Janice Weber, piano.
