Lloyd Center for the Environment to Sponsor Full Moon Owl Prowl on March 20th

Mar 11, 2019

Missed the Lloyd Center for the Environment’s Winter Owl Prowl? Then join Lloyd Center Research Associate Jamie Bogart on a Full Moon Owl Prowl on Wednesday, March 20th. The Spring Equinox, which this year occurs under the light of the full moon, is when night creatures have an attitude! Better yet, warmer conditions and a friendlier hour if thoughts of the winter prowl gave you shivers.

Participants will try their luck on the Lloyd Center property before venturing out in the Lloyd Center’s van to other stops, if necessary, to hear and see owls. With spring upon us, in addition to owls, who knows what might be awake!

Screech, great horned, and barred owls are all resident species possibly encountered in the woods of Dartmouth.

Participants should bring (if available) binoculars, camera, and flashlight, and wear footwear for light walking on forest trails, and possibly snow. (Note: stormy weather or excessively windy conditions will cause postponement).

Lead by Jamie Bogart, the Full Moon Owl Prowl will take place on Wednesday, March 20th from 6:45pm – 8:45pm (maximum time-frame). Inclement weather date is Thursday, March 21st. Participants will meet in the lower parking lot of the Lloyd Center for the Environment’s Hardscrabble Nature Preserve located at 430 Potomska Road in Dartmouth. This event is $10 for Lloyd Center members, and $13 for non-members. Children under 12 are half-price. Space is limited to 20 participants. This event is suitable for ages 10 and older.

Pre-registration for the Full Moon Owl Prowl is required by Wednesday, March 20th, 12pm. Go to the Lloyd Center for the Environment’s website at https://lloydcenter.org/calendar to pre-register online. If you have any questions about the event please contact Jamie Bogart at 508-990-0505 x 23 or jbogart@lloydcenter.org.
