YMCA Halloween Spooktacular a swashbuckling good time

The Gleason Family YMCA celebrated it’s 14th annual Halloween Spooktacular on Friday with a hearty crew of princesses, ghosts, superheroes and ghouls.

The free, pirate-themed event featured games, snacks, crafts and even a bouncehouse for costumed kids to enjoy. Aspiring swashbucklers also had a chance to embark on their very own treasure hunt, collecting coins and jewels from around the YMCA.

“It’s a lot of fun for us to host each year,” said Mel Dyer, senior program director at the YMCA. “We get to create activities that support physical health and offer social opportunities that you won’t get trick-or-treating.”

The safe environment of the YMCA was an added bonus for parents who could let their young kids explore freely.

“We absolutely love it,” said Kaitlyn Wirth, who brought her two year-old son Joe to the event. “We came last year and we’ll definitely plan on coming again.”
