Ben Rabinovitch of West Wareham was named as the new Athletic Director at Upper Cape Tech last month following a six year career as the school’s freshman football coach.

Originally from Stoughton, Rabinovitch has taught social studies at UCT for eight years. His past is deeply rooted in athletics and education, starting at Stoughton High School from which he graduated in 2003.

“I got my start in wrestling and football,” Rabinovitch said. “And I always assumed I’d take on some kind of administrative role similar to my dad.”

Rabinovitch’s father, Barry Rabinovitch, was superintendent of the Wareham School District for five years ending in 2013.

As a student at Bridgewater State College, Rabinovitch continued his football career as a two-way lineman. He then returned to Stoughton High School to coach wrestling before joining UCT.

Rabinovitch was initially named to the Athletic Director position on an interim basis to replace former AD Mike Heron who stepped down to spend more time with his family.

The position is a year-to-year stipend with Rabinovitch continuing his duties as a teacher and football coach.

“It’s a jack of all trades position,” Rabinovitch said. “But already it’s exceeded my expectations.”

According to Rabinovitch, a third of UCT’s students are involved with sports in some way with approximately 200 students enrolled in fall sports alone.

“It’s busy all the time,” he said. “But I’m getting to meet more of our student body and most of our teams are doing well.”

Rabinovitch added that UCT’s golf team is even poised to make the State Tournament this fall.

“The students are what make this position worth it,” he said. “All the small moments and the thanks you get, that’s what drives me.”

Rabinovitch also credited his family, fellow coaches, and Heron for their support in the new position.

“I have a lot to learn,” Rabinovitch said. “But I have a strong group of people around me. I’m very thankful for that.”
