Wareham/Carver Vikings defeated 3-1 in stretch before playoffs

Feb 10, 2019

A once hot Wareham/Carver Vikings hockey team has cooled in the final stretch before the playoffs. The team lost 3-1 to a resurgent Old Rochester Regional High School/Fairhaven team at Tabor Academy on Sunday night.

The team has already secured a playoff berth, however. Assistant Coach Quirino doCanto said players are preparing for the first game of the tournament, set for Feb. 25, and are waiting to hear who the opponent will be.

“I think we have a good shot of advancing,” said doCanto. “We were a little sloppy tonight, but we battled and outshot ORR. I like our chances.”

ORR/Fairhaven scored in the first period and twice in the third period, once on an open net as Wareham struggled to even the score with less than 2 minutes left.

The Vikings hit the ice again on Saturday, Feb. 16 against Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School at Charles Moore Arena in Orleans. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
