Wareham women to run Boston Marathon for Dana-Farber

Jan 15, 2019

Two Wareham women will be running 26.2 miles in the Boston Marathon this April, raising money to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Elizabeth Jean Donahue and Kristen Rumbolt Vicino, both Wareham High School graduates from the Class of 2001, are looking to raise a total of $20,000 with 100 percent of every dollar going directly to Dana-Farber’s Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.

Donahue will be running in honor of her cousin, Anthony P. Hathaway, who lost his battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of eleven. Vicino will be running in support of Madelyn Alexander, the five-year-old daughter of Wareham High School classmate, Dan Alexander, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2016 and is currently undergoing treatment at Dana-Farber.

There will be several events in Wareham to assist Donahue and Vicino in their quest to raise the money.

The first event will be a spaghetti dinner to support Donahue’s fundraising efforts at the Pier View Restaurant in Onset. The dinner will be hosted by proprietor Stephen Baptiste on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or reserved by calling Kathy (Hathaway) Donahue at 508-295-7482 or Jane Donahue at 508-846-9596.

Elizabeth and Kristen will be co-hosting an event on Saturday, March 2 at Salerno’s Function Hall at 7 p.m. featuring hors d’oeuvres, dancing and a silent auction.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting Liz Donahue at donahuee@gmail.com or Kristen Vicino at kristen.vicino@gmail.com.

Donations may also be made online at http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/LizzieD for Donahue and http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/KristenVicino for Vicino.
