Wareham Vikings fall to Randolph Blue Devils in Round of 8 game

Mar 11, 2022

The Wareham boys basketball team lost to the top-seeded Randolph Blue Devils 61-46 Friday night in a hard-fought game at Holbrook High School.

The Blue Devils led the Vikings for much of the matchup, but the Wareham boys still gave it their all in what ended up being the final game of their 2022 state tournament run.

“Did not end the way we wanted it to but kids showed a lot of heart tonight,” the team said on its Facebook page. “They played incredibly hard and left it all out there. Kids had a great season, showed a ton of growth, and gained a lot of experience.”

If the Vikings won, they would have moved onto the Final Four, playing against the winner of an upcoming Sunday game between Wahconah Regional and Manchester Essex Regional high schools.

In its first match-ups in the state tournament, Wareham beat Matignon High School 73-69 in overtime. The team later won against Cohasset 52-50 in its second game.

Randolph most recently beat Amesbury 59-36 before heading into its Round of 8 game against Wareham.

The team came away from the state championship tournament with the top title in 2010. The Vikings beat New Leadership Charter School of Springfield 80-57 to snag the boys basketball team’s first-ever state title.
