Wareham Town Moderator, former School Committee member pull nomination papers

Jan 17, 2019

As of Jan. 17, two more candidates have pulled nomination papers for Wareham’s upcoming April 2 election including incumbent Town Moderator Claire Smith and former School Committee member Goeff Swett.

Smith, who has served as Wareham’s town moderator for nine years, will seek reelection to her position for a three-year term and is currently unopposed.

She declined comment on her decision to run, having been previously undecided.

Swett, who served four terms with the School Committee starting in 2005, will challenge School Committee incumbent Mary Morgan for her three-year seat.

Swett said his decision to run came from a strong desire to support Wareham’s principals

“There’s a lot I’m still passionate about,” he said. “Good things are happening in our schools, and I want to support the curriculum and rigor our principals are putting into place.”

Swett lost his last election bid for School Committee running against Mike Flaherty and Rebekah Pratt last April.

The two candidates join 11 others competing for 10 open seats this election cycle in a variety of positions. For more information on the election, click here.
