Wareham School Committee approves 8th grade Washington, D.C. field trip

An 8th grade tradition was revived on Thursday when School Committee members approved a class trip to Washington, D.C.

Wareham High School Principal Scott Palladino said the trip hadn’t happened in the past 15 years, but with an energized 8th grade student council recently elected, it appeared time to bring it back.

“We wanted to do something special with the eighth graders,” said Palladino. “Something exciting, something educational and something that can again become a tradition.”

Eighth grader Indiana Troupe said students had several ideas in the works to raise funds for the trip, which will cost $599 per student.

“We want to start fundraising as soon as this is approved,” Troupe told committee members. He added that when surveyed, 87 percent of students were interested in a trip to Washington, D.C.

Palladino said with the approval, the trip is expected to take place in March.
