A car traveling the wrong way on Cranberry Highway reportedly led Wareham Police to recover more than $2,000 in cash as well as an unspecified amount of suspected heroin on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, Officer Calib Larue was traveling north on Cranberry Highway near Chili’s around 1 a.m. when he saw another car coming at him in the wrong lane.

Larue stopped the vehicle, but the driver allegedly attempted to escape. Larue was then forced to jump from his cruiser, yelling for the driver to stop, police said. 

The driver, Patrick Martin, 38, of Stoneham, and passenger, Michael Lacrosse, 37, of Lynn, were then uncooperative with Martin giving a false name to Larue, according to police. 

Officers Robert McLain and Steve Harrison were called into assist, and after further investigation, it was determined that Martin had an active warrant out for his arrest. 

Police said a subsequent search of the car also yielded a digital scale, more than $2,000 cash, multiple phones, multiple pills and suspected heroin. Martin and Lacrosse were then arrested. 

Both suspects were taken to the Wareham Police Department for processing, and police said Lacrosse became belligerent during the booking process.

According to reports, Lacrosse told the officers that he hoped that they get shot and killed on duty.

Both suspects were ordered held on $10,000 cash bail.

Martin has been charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class “A” drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class “B” drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class “C” drug, failure to identify self to police, possession of an open container of alcohol, warrant and driving in the wrong lane of travel.

Lacrosse has been charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class “A” drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class “B” drug and failure to wear seat belt.
