Wareham Police investigating after loaded firearm found in J.C. Penney dressing room

Wareham Police are conducting an investigation after a loaded firearm was found in a dressing room at J.C. Penney on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The gun was reportedly found while Wareham Police officers were tied up with a fatal train accident on Minot Avenue, prompting Massachusetts State Police to respond.

State Police reportedly took control of the weapon and brought it to the Wareham Police station. The owner of the gun was later located.

While the police say the incident appears to be accidental, the case remains under investigation by Sgt. Herb Noble with possible charges forthcoming.
